Some mortgages are portable and can be transferred to the new property that you are moving to. However, sometimes it is not quite as straightforward as it seems because you need to reapply for the mortgage and you may not qualify if your circumstances have changed or the lenders criteria has changed.
The property may be more expensive and you may need to borrow more, however, the lender may not allow this if you have already borrowed close to the maximum and if they do, you may be tied into poor interest rates.
