Mortgages and Credit Ratings

When clients come to me for advice on mortgages, particularly first time buyers, one of the things I ask for, is a copy of their credit report or their credit score, to see how good their credit rating is. More often than not, I ask for their credit report so that I can identify how they have conducted their credit, in the time that they have had it.

However, one thing that I do see quite often is that when people are searching for mortgages online, lenders are running credit checks in the background, which can actually decimate their credit score. As a result, if your credit score is low, this may mean that you will find it difficult to find a lender.

My advice therefore, to you, is that if you are browsing online for a mortgage, be very careful what information you enter into a lender’s website. Don’t key in all your personal data. Better still, seek the advice of a professional mortgage adviser like me.

I have been a mortgage and protection adviser for a long time, I am an expert in what I do and I can save you from the pitfalls of searching online for a mortgage and ultimately, will find the right product for you.
